STORY TIME ON HOW I SELF-COACHED MYSELF AND HOW YOU CAN TOO
Last week I went to Canada for a brand photoshoot (if you didn’t know I’m also a photographer!)
It was for a lumber company – not so glamorous – that my old business partner is working with, he is building them a new website and needed content so they flew us to Canada, eh! (My background is in marketing and I used to be a co-owner of a digital marketing agency, I’m a multiple hat wearer if you haven’t noticed haha.)
When I was working in the marketing industry, I felt SO confident. A Boss Bitch you could say. I would step into a meeting with a potential client and sell our services like a boss. I received my Bachelors degree in Business Marketing and spent years in the industry. I knew it and I was good at it.
I left the marketing industry because I wanted to do something more meaningful to me.
But I’m not going to lie, being back in the marketing environment felt really good. Not the marketing side of it, but the confidence I felt. I automatically fell into that role and helped my old business parter in the meetings we had with the CEO. I was explaining what should and shouldn’t be on the website, where content should be placed, how to market the services, etc.
I realized after, that confidence I was feeling allowed me to be on my game. I go into meetings with industry experts, and I speak my truth. I state facts and it feels so good.
Like I’m a boss bitch and could run an empire. Silly I know, but that’s how I feel in those moments.
I do not want to be back in the marketing industry, but I do want to transfer that confidence I have when I’m working in the marketing industry into other areas of my life.
So I did some self-exploration and self-coaching this week. Here is what I did (you can do this too).
Fact: In the marketing industry, people came to me as an expert. The trust wasn’t 100%, but it was there. Their presence with me and my explanations, created more trust and then MY confidence grew.
Realization: Someone else’s trust me in helped me become more confident.
How I feel about this realization: I don’t want to need someone else’s trust or affirmation to feel confident.
New Thought: How can I trust MYSELF so my confidence grows?
You don’t need people to trust you or believe in you to still know you’re good at what you do and that what you are providing is valuable.
Action Steps to Keep Growing My Confidence by Trusting Myself
1. Keep practicing – practice your craft. A result doesn’t need to come from your practice, but just do it anyways.
2. Keep researching – stay on top of your industry trends so you continue to feel confident when talking to people about what you’re doing.
3. Work with a coach to expel any insecurities and negative though patterns, to ensure you’re not living in a discouraged environment. (Thank you to my coach Paige for allows helping me get out of those non-serving thought-patterns).
If you’re having difficulty working through these steps on your own, that is VERY NORMAL, I’m here for you to work through these questions. Let’s set up a discovery call.
